Whitsunday Islands

The Whitsunday Islands, one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World, truly are a spectacular destination lying between the Australian mainland and the Great Barrier Reef. With direct access to the reef, these islands have beauty all their own with expansive beaches, dense rainforests, and dramatic mountains. Perfect for island hopping, these 74 islands only stretch about 40 miles total allowing you to visit several in one day. Recently, the Whitsundays have become the winter destination of choice. Explore the shoreline of untouched beaches, enjoy a night on the town, or test your skills at trying to hook “granders” – the thousand-pound marlins. Whether you decide to trek the rainforests ashore or adventure to the coral reefs below the water’s surface, there is always a sight to be seen at the Whitsunday Islands.

Sample Itinerary

Day 1 - Hamilton Island to Hook Island

Commence your travels in luxury at Hamilton Island. Once aboard your yacht charter, make your way to Nara Inlet on Hook Island. Discover the 8,000-year-old aboriginal caves, or cool off in the rock pools and a waterfall. Relax on the beach, as you take in the sights of this natural wonder.

Day 2 - Butterfly Bay

Enjoy the natural beauty of the coves that dot the shoreline as you arrive in Butterfly Bay at the north end of Hook Island island. Slip into the vacation state of mind as colorful fish tickle your toes. Delight in a lunchtime picnic, as butterflies dance around the surrounding mangroves. Add a drop of honey to your fingertips to entice these beauties to come a little closer. Stay up late, to gander at the stars as there are no city lights to drown them out.

Day 3 - Stonehaven

On your way, stop at Langford Island for lunch on the picture perfect white sand beach. Once at Stonehaven, admire the towering mountains that border the shore. Spend your day soaking in the sun and splashing around on all the water toys your yacht has to offer. Relish in the sunset, as Stonehaven faces West. In true Aussie tradition, indulge in a beach barbeque for dinner.

Day 4 - Whitsunday Island

Take a detour to Border Island, where you can snorkel or dive in Cataran Bay to discover reefs that rival the best of the Great Barrier Reefs. With a scent of Eucalyptus in the air, watch as teems of colorful tropical fish swim around you. Continuing to Whitehaven beach, stumble upon the four miles of soft silica beach. Travel to Hill inlet where the shallow waters and sand swirl together creating incredible designs on the ocean floor.

Day 5 - Cid Harbor

Observe the Dugongs – gentle marine mammals that weight over 2,000 pounds and get as old as 70 years – as they feast on the ocean floor grasses. You may also catch a glimpse of some sea turtles. Once ashore, look out for rock wallabies, which were isolated to this island 10,000 years ago.

Day 6 - Whitsunday Island to Hamilton Island

Head to Hamilton Island early in the morning in order to spend your day on the Great Barrier Reef. Enjoy endless hours of snorkeling or diving, while exploring reefs that can’t be seen anywhere else in the world. After a tiring day on the water, retreat to the spa before having dinner at a local restaurant ashore.

Day 7 - Hamilton Island

Enjoy a round of golf at the Hamilton Island Golf Club course, a Peter Thomson-designed 18-hole championship par 71. Take part in all that this luxurious resort has to offer including tennis courts, pools, and shops. Hop on your seaplane to head back to the mainland.
