CAPTAIN

Mike, Captain
Captain Mike was born in Worcester, Massachusetts and spent every summer at the family cottage on Moody Beach, Maine. He taught himself to surf when he was 11 and began surfing all year when he was 16. He dove for Maine sea urchins 1989-2010, covering the entire coast of Maine. He was featured on the cover of the Wall Street Journal in 1992 for a record setting single day harvest, and explored the Northern fjords of Iceland surveying the logistics of feasibility of harvesting and transporting of sea urchins. He became a captain in 1997 and started lobster fishing to offset the seasonal regulations of the urchin fishery. He was featured in a couple surfing documentaries by Ben Keller and was described in East Coast Surf Magazine as an off the grid waterman. He was the owner/operator of a stand up paddle outfitter guide shop in Eastern Oregon and on the volunteer fire department for three years. He started yachting when he suffered frostbite while lobster fishing on Georges Bank January 2013. His passion for playing in and on the ocean are contagious, and he enjoys sharing his knowledge with kids and families.
