Sea Ray Montauk Getaway!®
One of the most anticipated events of the boating season in New York, is the MarineMax Getaway! to gorgeous Montauk Yacht Club Resort & Marina, located in Montauk NY, the heart of the Hamptons. The Getaway! is in such demand that some boaters make reservations a year in advance, planning their summer around the event.

The flotillas begin arriving on Friday afternoon from New Jersey, Connecticut and Rhode Island, joining local boaters from the North and South shores of Long Island. A MarineMax captain leads each group to make sure even novices are comfortable traveling the open seas.

Senior executives from MarineMax and partner Sea Ray are on hand to meet and greet customers throughout the weekend. Once on land, boaters check in, pick up gift bags, and an identification bracelet that allows them access to the weekend activities. There is always a party at the Montauk Yacht Club, but the wristbands identify the MarineMax guests as VIPs.

According to Ron and Jill Mazza, “Last year’s Montauk Getaway! was a fantastic low key event, but this year’s party took things to a whole new level.”

The festivities began with a docktail party, where guests mingled, sipping cocktails and munching stir-fry from take-out containers, as the sun set over the harbor.

Saturday things pumped up with an early morning exercise class led by MarineMax Norwalk store manager David Dzurilla and his wife Maria. The Dzurilla’s put together a tough boot camp style workout and whipped everyone into shape for a day of fun.

Down at the beach, entire families got into the no hassle sand castle event.  One group came prepared with a schematic of what they planned to build, another created a working volcano, and a third built a waterfront village with a mote that flooded with each wave.

After lunch things kicked into high gear; the ladies went trick or treating for beauty supplies at a beauty-sampling event with National Beauty magazine, while the kids had their faces painted at the pool patio.
Everyone’s competitive nature came out during the duck races. Guests bet on their favorite, then gathered to cheer their rubber friends to victory. In an intense race with 96 rubber ducks battling the waves to the finish line, it was Jeff and Janet Rapisarda’s duck that came out victorious, a confirmation that their last minute decision to attend the Montauk event was the right one.

In addition to special events put on specifically for MarineMax customers, guests also enjoyed the many activities offered by the Montauk Yacht Club. There are several pools, tennis courts, and always-live music. Guests enjoyed walking through the harbor and admiring the amazing boats, each one more spectacular than the next.

Some of the most spectacular vessels were docked all afternoon at the MarineMax event, where attendees could take a tour of the latest Sea Ray boats and talk with representatives about new features. The highlight was taking the SLX 400 out for a spin.

The SLX 400 is the hottest new party boat from Sea Ray, and winner of the 2017 NMMA Innovation Award and Boating Magazine Boat of the Year Award. The shear size of this craft is impressive, it includes a retractable sunshade that deploys electronically from the hardtop, storage for 2 full-sized stand-up paddleboards, a helm station that features an intuitive Digital Dash, and effortless docking and precise maneuvering courtesy of Axius joystick control.
Back on land, the pool patio was transformed into old Havanna with a live cigar rolling demonstration. Conversations about the best SLX 400 features, like the fold-down swim terrace that opens 90 degrees to expand the cockpit all the way to the water, and the well appointed wet bar with refrigerator, sink and available dual grills, flowed easily as guests puffed on customized MarineMax cigars overlooking Lake Montauk.

Even raindrops couldn’t dampen the mood at the spectacular black and white themed evening. Cocktails and a delicious buffet dinner gave everyone fuel to get out on the dance floor once the DJ started spinning, with a little help from Zack Houliares, son of Tom Houliares, the general manager of the MarineMax New York locations.

Not wanting the party to end, many took the festivities down to the docks, and continued the conversation on the boats well into the night.

After the big night, guests trickled in for breakfast before leaving with their flotilla. Some headed back home, others continued on to another awesome MarineMax excursion to Block Island.

Mike Siegel summed up the sentiment of many MarineMax Getaway! participants, "Thank you for a wonderful weekend. I laughed, I ate good, I drank, I danced, I chilled, and I made new friends, as well as getting closer to existing ones."

It’s not too early to plan for next year. Whether you have been in the past or coming for the first time, you’re invited to the 2018 Montauk Getaway! in August.
